In His book, Anam Cara, John O'Donohue writes, "In the kingdom of love there is no competition; there is no possessiveness or control." The empty nest is a striking image of such love.. We can nurture and care for those we love, but they have wings of their own, and fly they will. If we bind or cage the ones we say we love with our possessiveness or control what kind of love do we really have for them. When we love, we encourage those we love to spread their wings and fly. Perhaps they will fly far from us. Perhaps they will return to us. That matters not. What matters is that they are becoming what they were meant to be, and that in love we nurture that!
